Euro 2008: day 3

Romania 0-0 France
Blustery, unsettled.
Oh dear… when the tournament’s Best Squad On Paper looks at dreary as this, you know it’s going to be a funny day. France need to get their act together.

Netherlands 3-0 Italy
Torrential rain, mostly on parades.
The world champions, no less, utterly humbled by the finest Dutch performance since, ooh, 1988?

  1. Holand 3 Italy 0
I have only watched 1 game and this was it. I normally watch EVERY game in Euro and World cups, but somehow haven’t got the interest this time….
    However…. Holland 3 Italy 0
Football is a strange thing, if I was a betting man and thankfully I am not…. I’d probably bung a few quid on er.. Italy to win the trophy!!
    Why?
Well, the game changed completely on 1 decision, where 2 Dutch players were YARDS off side and that gave the dutch more freedom and their on the break football looked, well, brilliant… but how many times have we seen this?
A brilliant performance only to end in severe choking at the end of the tournament and by the way, the Germans usually wobble early on and look poor and yet are always there at the end, so yes, Italy…. we’ll see…..

Totally agree, Graham. As a part-time Holland supporter (they’ve been my “default second team” for years) I’m used to seeing them go from dazzling wins to half-hearted draws and tragic penalty shoot-out failures. As for the Germans, you can never write them off. I would have said the same about Italy if Lippi had stayed on after the World Cup, but Donadoni looked completely dazed during the second half yesterday.
